Colleton Middle School Continues the Journey to Academic Success

Colleton Middle School is determined to be a dynamic force in assisting students to constantly reach for higher levels of success. We feel that it is paramount that our school is focused on personalizing instruction, adequately accommodating the needs of all of our students, and further sustaining a strong growth trajectory for all of our students. To attain this level of achievement, Colleton Middle School has provided our students with DesCartes learning continuum resource. We have taken our Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) data and devised actionable plans for instruction, grouping, and placing our students in appropriate classes geared to their specialized needs. Our students are grouped by RIT bands for specific skill instruction.

DesCartes assessments are given weekly for specific skill areas. To accommodate the growth of all of our students on this journey to success, we have further taken our highest RIT band and developed a Colleton Middle School Book Club. The Colleton Middle School Book Club is divided into four frames which are as follows:

Frame One — Teacher Chat/10 minutes (Teacher discusses and analyzes a specific skill through the novel content)

Frame Two — Student Reading/10minutes (Students read approximately 10 minutes, either silently, shared/paired or orally within the group.)

Frame Three — Student Share/5 minutes (Students share any information from novel and/or reading)

Frame Four — Reflective Writing/5 minutes (Students write thoughts on reading, discussions, etc. in daily class journals)

Students are eagerly moving to their DesCarte classes and are focusing on their individual achievement and growth levels. It is the goal of Colleton Middle School to provide a curriculum that incorporates and captures the needs all of our students.

Finally, we, at Colleton Middle School, want to instill in our students that the journey to academic success comes through studying hard, being dedicated and committed to school, becoming an avid reader, and striving to be a responsible student. Colleton Middle School is definitely teaching its students to continue the journey to academic success, achievement and growth.
